We have been married 49+ years and have four grown kids. At present count we have six grandkids. Carole has stuck with me through over 4 RVs and more than a "baker's dozen" different boats, so far. [...]To start our Mexico adventure, we moved onto the boat September 1st, 2006, after we sold our home in Sacramento. We had expected to move onto the boat by June or July to sail the Bay and Delta areas for a couple months before heading down the coast, but so much for plans. We are came back from cruising in Mexico after the '06 to'08 seasons. Our plans are often "cast in the sand at low tide". Following two seasons, after we brought ESPIRITU back up the coast to The San Francisco Bay, and we sold her and moved on to a 36' trawler. After sailing in Mexico we've done some land-cruising, and expect to be spending time visiting friends and spending more time in Portland. But my retirement didn't last as long as expected. I worked with "BOAT GUYS", a marine service company, as the customer service and marketing director. How 'bout this, I got paid to mess around with boats! We lived on PEREGRINE about half-time, the motor home about half-time, and visiting family and friends about half-time. In between, we did the '08 Ha Ha with friends on their Lagoon 41. Then we'll spend about half-time having fun with everybody before we head back to Mexico in Jan or Feb. Oh yeh, I'm also spending about half-time working with BOATGUYS. But you know that saying about writing plans in sand at low tide?! Time passes by, the trawler was sold and we figured "the sailing window" was closed. In mid 2011 I got to complete a BIG ONE FROM THE 'BUCKET-LIST' when I got to sail from Hawaii to San Francisco on Capricorn Cat. That was 16 days of the most glorious sailing anybody could hope for. It makes me think there might be something to not owning a boat, afterall. We spend lots of time with kids, fixing up the house, traveling & boating. Sail America has asked us to continue presenting our Coastal Cruising seminar, and I'm still having fun working in marketing. Carole loves to play tennis, too. AND, we assisted the m/v WATERMARK, a Selene 53 as she headed to Mexico. Tough work, but somebody has to do it! We found our Choey Lee 35 in Barra De Navidad in late 2012, renamed her ENCORE, and she was our "winter home" when it got cold & foggy in the Sacramento valley. In early 2015 we sold ENCORE when land-based family activities overtook any time for heading to Mexico. We think it may be time to go back to trailerable sailboats.

Those of you who know us, and our 'technological" skill level - or lack of it, will laugh at our re-creation of the voyage down the coast from San Francisco as far as Zihuatanejo and back up into the Sea of Cortes to San Carlos, remembering our excusses at not getting e-mails out, or a blog up and [...]

We enjoy seeing little out-of-the-way places, good food & wine, hiking, camping, traveling the country in an RV. As of the end of July '08 we thought we'd be living part time in our RV assisting with 'twins-duty' and part time on some boat some where. What happened is we moved into mom's house in San Francisco to do all the things that needed to be done & finalized, and get the house ready to rent. It was a great 6-months living in S.F. though. Twins-duty is now long-over and we have completed duties for TWO ADDITIONAL grandkids since. So, we are off and running some more. Check back from time to time for more updates. We've spent great parts of November, December, January or February in some parts of Mexico in both 2011 and 2012. Then in 2013 and we purchased another boat: ENCORE. We enjoyed her along the "gold Coast" of Mexico, but now 2015 finds us boat less once more. Who knows where we go from here! We continue presenting seminar at the SailAmerica boat show in Oakland, and updating CRUISING NOTES. Since 2011 we have driven "The Baja" and the roads of the mainland as far south as Manzanillo. Who needs a boat to sail Mexico? Several times we've seen "THE TIDE COME BACK IN AND WASH AWAY OUR PLANS". That's OK, the tide will go back out again and we'll write out some new plans, again. Every time our "bucket list" gets short we just add to it. Additions as of 2015 list are to spend some time in and around the Panama Canal and the San Blas Islands, The ICW along the east coast, and the Passage to Alaska. I'm sure we'll leave any trailerable sailboat home for most of this!
