1 November 2009, Just outside Gibraltar
Left Gibraltar around 7am...not quite sunrise and the fog has set in. We can see around us for about 1 nautical mile and there's very little wind. We have a six day passage to the Canaries and expect to arrive on Friday at an island called Graciosa where there's currently roughly 15 other boats happily anchored. We'll be keeping in touch with the Madlantic Net boats (those boats crossing to the Caribbean who talk each morning on the SSB) and our mates on Argonaut at night if we can copy each other.

Just testing my ability to update the sailblogs via the satphone once we're at sea and out or radio range.

This morning we started the last leg to Gibraltar at around 7am and expected to ride the outgoing tide. There are bizaare things going on in the water around the strait. Lots of eddies and counter-eddies so that the water looks really agitated. At some points we were doing six knots and others around 4.5 knots, all related to the tidal activity. We got into La Linea (next to Gibraltar) around 3pm. Phew...good to be here. We're going into Marina Bay marina tomorrow to spend a day or two while some nasty weather rolls through.
