Time is approaching for our Pacific crossing in early May. Once underway we will be updating our blog several times a month from the boat. Currently we are in Seattle making final preperations with just over two months before departure, the excitment is growing.
Most ' Pacific Puddle Jumpers leave from Mexico or Panama and travel south toward French Polynesia stopping first in the Marquesas. Unlike the majority, we will be departing from the Strait of Juan de Fuca (Washington)heading SSW, then around latitude 40 more westerly toward Hawaii. After a few weeks in the Hawaiian Islands we will depart toward Palmyra, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji , then west. Our route will be just a few weeks before the Pacific Cup and the Transpac Races.
Mist is proud to announced the addition of Adam Gaston of Seattle to our crew list. We may still have one more crew position available.

Mist is happy to announce the fantastic news that our former sail boat "Infinity" has sold! The sale took place last month in Seattle! "Infinity's" new owners will be keeping her in the Pacific Northwest as far as we have heard. We wish a safe and well- maintained future for "Infinity" as she is a beautiful and seaworthy vessel. We enjoyed sailing "Infinity" for over 5 years and 10,000 miles and are happy she has found new beginning.
Meanwhile, in Seattle, MIST is still being refit in Seattle for a spring departure to the South Pacific in 2010. Anyone interested in communicating with us about the 'crossing' this coming year, we welcome you to contact us to share information follow our journey ...meeting new friends and sharing information with other cruisers is so vital. Even if we don't know you, we would love to meet you. You can communicate with us in three ways:
1) via this site (Sailblogs s/v Mist), 2) through our website (www.svmist.com) or 3) through our direct land email: sv_mist@yahoo.com
As time approaches we hope to update our blog more frequently. Most of the Pacific Puddle Jumpers this coming year usually leave from Mexico or Panama and head for the Marquesas. Unlike the majority, we will be crossing from the Strait of Juan de Fuca toward Hawaii, Palmyra, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji then west. We would like to invite one to two additional crew from Seattle to Hawaii. If you know of anyone with offshore experience who might be interested in coming along on this passage, let us know. ...fishing skills are a big plus!

It was a gorgeous weekend at the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival this year... lots of beautiful boats as usual , however the weather was what truly made the weekend...sunny and in the high 70's it could not have been better.
We took care of a few minor things on the interior of the boat, she was a bit dusty but in overall good shape. A new windvane will be installed later this month, as well as the bump kin getting a minor make-over by the Cape George yard. There are new sails a in the making in Seattle and minor rigging details to tend. In the next month Mist will be going to Seattle for the remainder of the winter in preparation for the next BIG ONE....Hawaii to Samoa then down to Tonga and then....
We were fortunate enough to see some old friends while in PT such as Jim and Don of s/v Dreamweaver (Port Angeles) and Todd of Cape George Marine works, Steven Metzimer , the son of our close friends Marlene and Gary of s/v Wandrin Star (Mexico). We spoke with our pal Christian of s/v Irie ( boat is currently in New Zealand) who was in the Seattle area, but we were unable to hook up with him live this trip...next time Christian!!...and to everyone else --a big HELLOâ€"to you 'out there' wherever you may be. If you have a chance to sign our log (www.svmist.com) with any of your updated information it would be lovely to reconnect.
Some sailing pals we HAVE been in touch with more recently : s/v Qayaq in Aipa, Samoa, s/v Nakia in the Marquesas, s/v Wyntersea in Fiji, s/v Irie (boat in New Zealand), s/v Dreamweaver in Port Angeles, s/v Odessa -(Rob and Melissa) in North Carolina, s/v Outrider in Mazatlan (playing in Lake Chapala), s/v Sugata in San Carlos, Mexico, s/v Hawk in the Chesapeake but living/ working in the South of France, Veleda- formerly(Jens and Alice) in Victoria BC. To think we were in the same location at one point in our travels is so unbelievable ... aye, such as the cruising life!
For the next few months when not on the boat, you can find us in the Sierra's skiing this winter. Our planned cruising departure is once again set for early spring 2010.... Happy Travels! S & E
