VOYAGE TO PHILIPPINES FROM BALTIMORE MARYLAND
"Twenty Hours of Beating into the Wind"
11/10/2008, Wrightwville NC

Wow!
What fun yesterday was. Took 20 hrs to go 90 miles. Steep Seas and 20 to 22knts wind right on the nose! Lots of noise and little sleep but all is well and ready for another fun day of sailing! Take a look at a pic of the Admiral(Tess) at watch! Also here is a pic of our Crew Member "Jay from Maine" he joined us for the last 600 miles of offshore work.

Gary & Tess:

You have had your ups and downs on this trip so far but you are out there sailing south while most sailors on the Chesapeake Bay are thinking about hauling the boat for the winter. Keep on Sailing South - way to go.

"OH MY GOSH THE BOATS ON FIRE"
11/07/2008, ICW #202/Beaufort NC

"Just another exciting day in the travels of "Restless Rosie"

MY wife and I went into town to get offshore charts after putting the boat back into the water (replaced old thru hull and a sounder).
I remember checking the thru hulls with a drop light and I must of got distracted and left the light on the v-birth bedding.
When we retruned there was a fellow sailor climbing off the boat with a "FIRE EXTINGUISHER" My first thought was "OH great now I will have to go back to work" The only damage(thank the Lord) was bedding and clothes plus the foam backing.
We will travel coastal about 5-8 miles offshore We have a crew member arriving on 11/08 (Jay from Maine)
Stay tuned for more updates and hopefully "Less Exciting"

"Being Chased by Polor Bears"
garyand tess
10/27/2008, Broad Creek

So last night my shoulder was really hurting due to a rotator cuff tear!
So I took a pain pill and about an hour later my lips were the size of
a couple of "Cucumbers"!!!!!!!!!! MY wife was so woried She asked me if we were going to die here!!!!! NO honey just "ME" After taking a couple of Benedryl pills I felt better . But later that night i dreamed that not one but TWO "POLOR BEARS WERE CHASING ME'
Thank the lord they didnt catch me!!!!!

Today we have gone only 35 miles and my depth transducer is reading 224 ft..!!!!!!!!!!! I'am only in 5 ft of water so here we sit in this little creek till AM so I can try to fix it. The weather is really bad
Winds right now are Howling and at 25 to 30 knts. I got two anchors out and I'am still dragging !!!!!! So it won't surprise me if we end up on the shore in the am. I have reset the anchor twice now and still am dragging. I'am so tired and really dont give a - - - - at this point. I'am just sitting here with my sweetie and having some wine!
Stay tuned and send your comments here or email me and tess

This is the first log I have commented on. The Pearson 30 is a great boat. Mine had an atomic 30. It was an older 1974 model. I hate dragging you seem to handle it better then me, have fun. I am planning to do that in two years and wow time is going so quick
Sailing at Night!

10/22/2008, norfolk

"Believe me you don't want to sail into norfolk @night with24 knts of Wind !!!!!!!!!! The result is another Grounding only 15 ft. from channel! in one foot of water with a 6 ft keel Iam dug in perty good here. "I think my wife wants to fly back to the Philippines!!
What happened is that as we tried to enter the Mobjack bay at 3pm yesterday we were again fighting a 22 knt wind and current and only 3 miles to go I looked into the cabin and "SMOKE EVERYWHERE''
The engine was overheating! so I had to turn and head agin South at 1600. Which meant we would be sailing at night!
As one heads into Norfolk there must be a "BILLION RED AND GREEN LIGHTS ON AT NIGHT"So I missed my channel by only 15 ft and here I set in .5 to 1.0 ft. of water. I Will try to get off in daylight But if I can't I will call to get pulled off. Iam only about 2 miles from the Marina we were going to stay at!!!!!!
"DIAL IN AGIN FOR THE CONTINUED SAGA!!!!!"
We have some great pics and will place them here when we are rested and at the marina.

30 knts dead ahead
10/19/2008, Solomons Island

So the other two yachts("Yachts" Is anything larger than my "Boat"), Decided to leave for the nx anchorage in a building low of 30mbars ! I left a little before them and got almost out to the buoy to change my direction to south bound and I noticed I was only making .8 knots and being pushed to the lee shore!!!!!!!! The Seas were up to 10 ft and winds with gust to 30 knts! didnt mind so much the seas ! I just couldn't make any easting with my small inboard motor. So we decided to leave the other yachts and return to Solomons. Tomorrow we will try again. Forcast is for low to move out and winds from 10 to 15.
